The Greek Beer Awards are back!

Greek Beer Awards 2023 winners

36 awards were given to beers from Europe and the Mediterranean at the renewed Greek Beer Awards

On Monday, April 24th, 2023, the Greek Beer Awards Event Night took place on the rooftop of the Moxy Athens City Hotel. The Greek institution of beer awards breathed an air of renewal both because of its expansion to countries of South-Eastern Europe and the Mediterranean, as well as the new venue that hosted the event. The roof of the Athens Moxy City Hotel offered a unique view of the sunset, creating the ideal conditions for the opening of the event, combined with the welcome drink Crodino.

The Greek Beer Awards this year had entries from countries such as Cyprus, Turkey, Croatia, Slovenia among others, increasing even more their international influence and the competition between labels. For these reasons, new categories were created, which will remain with the additions of the following year.

The top honor of Top Lager went to Lola Pils from Pineios Brewery, which also received the gold award in the category of Pils, while that of Top Ale went to Chios Wheat with mastic, in its first participation, a distinction that made it very difficult for the judges to which will be given, since there were three labels that had the same score and this particular one won “on points”, having also won the gold in the Specialty Ale. The participation of Chios Brewery can be judged as successful since it was also awarded in other categories such as that of Smoked Ale with gold for the BBQ.

The most awards were received, for one more year, by Siris Microbrewery for Voreia, with the Macedonian Thrace Brewery for its Vergina beers and the Septem Microbrewery for its beers following in the overall ranking. In their first appearance at the competition, the Pelicon Brewery from Slovenia managed to win 5 awards, with the Shikma Israeli Craft Beer following along with the Cypriot Octo Microbrewery, winning 2. The Cypriot Cyrcraft also won an award. The presence of the Greek Midnight Circus Gypsy Brewing was also impressive.

The event was honored with his presence by the president of the Hellenic-Italian Chamber of Commerce of Athens, Mr. Tsamichas Ioannis, who stated that it is an excellent event that has prospects for development, with the Chamber willing to support it further. On the rooftop of Moxy Athens City, there were friends and colleagues from the brewing and bar industry, with the latter expressing their warm interest in brewing.

About the Greek Beer Awards

The Greek Beer Awards is the only international beer competition after blind tasting in Greece. It was held for the first time in 2017 and this year it was extended to countries in Southeast Europe and the Mediterranean. Breweries, microbreweries, and nomadic breweries participate in the competition, which send their samples to be tested by experienced and renowned judges from abroad, who are specially invited for this purpose to our country. With the motto: “We support good brews since 2017”, the annual Greek beer festival aims, among other things, to bring Greek beers into contact with the rest of the world.
